There are a couple things you can count on when you race at Gravity Alley MX in the summer. One is it will be hot – and it was. The other is that the track will be mixed and prepped perfectly – and again, it was. So that’s two out of two. But there was a surprise this race day. Grant Bourgeois went ten out of ten in his motos. He’s been away training with former pro Mike Craig and his MX school and returned home to show how smooth, fast and conditioned he was.

Grant won the Schoolboy, 250 Novice, 250 Open, 450 Novice and 450 Open classes. He never lost a moto, but he had to fight hard a couple times. Grant took his Off-road Toyz/Performance Cycle KTM to victory easily in the first moto with the 250 novice. The leftovers went to Colby Airhart, Derek Lopez and Bryce Simon, with Simon getting the best starts all day.

Grant’s biggest challenge came in the 250 Open class when Hunter Duhon and Colby Airhart got in front of him in the second moto, hoping he was tired from all his shenanigans. But on the last lap, Grant put a double-fake move in a turn to take second from the Airhart Yamaha, then went wide and ducked inside on a sweeper to finally pass the speedy Duhon Kawasaki.

Another rising star shone in the 85 (7-11) class as little Logan Matherne took his Cycle World Kawasaki in behind perennial front-runner and last year’s rider of the year, Hunter Hilton. Hilton is used to winning having been on that "Mini-Motocross Des-Nations" team that raced in France and brought back gold for America. He is a favorite to win a National Championship for LA this year. But Sagan Guillory usually has his Performance Cycle KTM behind him. This time, however Matherne got between them and displayed a new speed and confidence that could have come from his recent G2G Camp from the previous weekend. Though Matherne accidently jumped too close to the pond at the camp and ended up taking a dunk, gear and all, he almost did it again in the second moto of this race, ending up in the ditch! But he kept enough control to cruise to a second behind Hilton in both the 65 (9-11) and 85 (7-11) classes.

Guillory, Dillon Suire, Barron Bellard and Chase Desselle all showed flashes of speed behind them, but none with the smooth consistency of Hunter Hilton on his Hattiesburg Cycles Suzuki and KTM.

Mitchell Suire and Adam Cedillo swapped overall victories in the older 85 and Supermini classes, keeping the large class of fast mini-riders behind them. Nikki Gaspard was unstoppable in the Women’s class on her Moeller’s Honda.

The High School Motocross team continues to place more riders on the podium like Roy Barrios with two wins on his G&N Honda, Bryce Simon, Scott Sardella and Megan Serpas riding for Cycle World of Houma. Performance Cycle KTM had several podiums as well like Dylan Fontenot, Rene & Josh Mouton, Sagan Guillory and the aforementioned Grant Bourgeois.
