Randy Rector continues to make improvements to the finest track in Mississippi, with additional PA speakers, more sand on the track and a viewing tower. On the schedule is the AMA MS state championship and Pro-AM on September 27th & 28th. This weekend racers turned out to qualify for the NMA’s Dixie Region.

While Golden Pine might be MS’s finest track, Johnny Moore is MS’s fastest amateur MX’er, again cutting through the competition like a hot knife through butter, even beating the expert riders when the classes were combined. But the interesting story was, "who is fastest behind Moore?" North LA’s John Moeller and his older cousin Gerrit made a case that they were next in line behind the Green Hornet in speed. Besides Moore, John was virtually undefeated all day; many times with Gerrit flyin’ behind him on a smaller bore 2-stroke.

Moore left the table again in the second moto of the 250 Lites B class while the rest had to eat his dust.Sixteen year-old John Moeller got his Moeller’s Kaw/Honda/Yamaha YZf250 in front of 29 year old Brock Hollis and his new Suzuki. By the next lap Gerrit Moeller came slicing through the pack into third on his little 125 Yamaha. The two Moeller’s were unable to close the gap on Moore who was first to the checkered flag again.

Johnny Moore quickly checked out on the combined Open A and B classes on his True Blue Deodorizer/Got Gear Kawasaki 450, while Zach Lawler had to pass almost everyone on his Bardwell Yamaha YZf250 to move behind expert leader Dustin Manuel’s Champion Cycle Suzuki 450 by the second lap. B rider Carey Smith held down the second position on his Brookhaven Honda 450f behind those two, with Roy Barrios screamin’ behind him on his G & N Honda 250 two stroke. At the finish line the Green Hornet had stung both classes to win the B class, while 30 seconds back Lawler edged out Manuel for the A class win. Barrios worked his way up behind A rider Jason Manuel to score second in the B class, closely followed by Smith. While Moore won the B class, Smith took second overall with Barrios third and Vance Accardo fourth.

Moore made quick work of the 4 stroke Open Amateur class while behind him, Carey Smith and Nate Martin emerged as frontrunners. Stephen Wagley led Ryan Alexander for fourth.

In the second moto of the 4 stroke Open, Moore dashed away again, leaving Carey Smith, Nate Martin, Chris Purcell and Stephen Wagley to decide on the rest of the positions. Jonathan Clark was tossed over the bars and got back up in last place. Wagley also went down on the off-camber turn and got back up on a mission to re-take what was his. Smith, Martin, Wagley and Purcell finished behind Moore in the overall.

Jon-murry Barr speared his Hattiesburg Cycles KTM out in front to stay in the 85 (12-16) class by the first turn. Aaron Sanchez took offense and went after him on his Raceworks D&G Suzuki. The other 18 riders settled back into their own private battles. Barr went on to beat Sanchez to the finish line and take the overall. Sanches, Gage Hamby, Jamey Rivet and Christopher Lawrence filled out the overall.

Barr was leading Sanchez in the second moto of the Supermini class until Sanchez went down hard at the end of the giant whoop section. He high-sided after getting sidewise and went down hard slightly injuring himself, but seriously injuring his bike taking him out of the race. T-Don Lerille inherited his second place, followed by TN rider Micah Preston and the quickly improving Alex Broadus. The very next lap Broadus made the exact mistake Sanchez did in the same spot and had to exit the race. Barr took the convincing victory for MS. Lerille, from south LA took a distant second and Preston third.

Ty Jones got ahead of John Moeller and Jon-murry Barr in the Youth (12-16) class. Forrest Smith, Zach Rideout, Roy Barrios, William Matthews, A. J. Wales and Ceylon Godfrey followed. Moeller slipped into the lead before the end of the first lap and turned on the juice. Jones led Smith, Barrios and Rideout. Moeller won by 12 seconds over Jones, with Barrios capturing third and a fast-closing Skylar Phillips fourth. Moeller got the overall victory ahead of Barrios, Skylar Phillips, Jones and Rideout.

The two Moeller’s again put on a show in the second moto of the 250 Open class with Arkansas rider Logan Trusty in third, Michael Congemi fourth and Jonathan Clark fifth. Colby Airhart roared up into the fourth spot on the next lap. Moeller took another checkered flag in front of his cousin.
