Welcome home former racer and photographer Kyle Jenkins! Kyle will be home by June 17 after 4 years of active duty in the Marines. He served 2 deployments, the last as an "Assaultman" and "Machine Gunner" with the 2/6 in Marjah, Afghanastan. He'll be starting his new life in Baton Rouge, going back to school and settling into civilian life. May you now enjoy the country you risked your life to protect!

For those of you who like to ride the trails or race cross country, Ray Mitchell has re-opened the trails at Competition Cycle Ranch in Loranger, just north of Hammond near the 1-12/1-55 interchange. Call him at (225) 223-3698 for more info.

There's a new track in Louisiana that is a "throwback" track. The Ponderosa was active in the late 70's to mid 80's. William Lauson has re-opened and kept what was good from the old track and added some of his own features. If you want a supercross style track with a lot of technical features and steep jumps, this is not for you. If you want a long, safe, fast track with a lot of turns, you have to check it out. We just had a blast racing there on May 22. This looks like it could be the new destination for older and vintage riders looking to extend their mx hobby, as well as those wanting to work on their cornering speed.

My favorite race of the entire year - the biggest, funnest, celebrity sprinkled, vintage off-road motorcycle celebration/race - Diamond Don's 9th annual Riverport National - was held just across the border from Shreveport in Jefferson, Texas on the weekend of April 15-17th. Vintage Trials and Cross-Country races were held on Friday, motocross on Sat, and Post-Vintage on Sunday. Brad Lackey, Trampas Parker, Marty Tripes, Bill Silverton, Trampas Parker, Tommy Croft and Trey Jorski were on hand. This years honoree was Gary Bailey. There were crawfish, bar-b-que and lots and lots of old race bikes - going at it hard on the track. I got to announce with JP Parsons, and lead the church service with Steve Wise. For more info click here.

A picture just surfaced of my son, L.Cpl Kyle Jenkins serving in Afghanistan with the 2/6 Marines. He took a lot of these pictures for this website when we were hanging out together. The last thing he told me before he left is he wanted to race vintage motocross and bow-hunt with me when he returns. He served as a turret gunner, then a machine-gunner and assaultman. Kyle is second from the left.

It is soooooo good to see a picture of him. We haven't heard from him in over a month. Come home soon son, we love you!!!!!!!

The rough draft is done in the second book of the Dirt Bike Ike series. This young adult novel has more mature themes and is longer than Ike 1. Join Ike Hebert as he survives failing 10th grade, being put in jail in New Orleans, then  going to the south Louisiana swamp on a Choctaw Indian reservation to solve a murder mystery. All this happens while pursuing his dream to be a National Champion Motocross Racer. This time his mentor is a tough, no-nonsense Marine Scout-Sniper. Dirt Bike Ike 2, Pursuing the Dream will be out this Fall.
