Searching for God on Two Wheels

Former Racer, Chaplain Presents Inspirational Book for Motorcycle Riders

COVINGTON, La. – From a life filled with many experiences often emerges the wisdom to help others make the journey. Roy Jenkins has enjoyed motorcycling as a tourer, cruiser, motocross racer, race announcer, reporter and chaplain. Those roles, along with others, combine in his new book, Racing Fuel for the Spirit: Inspirational Devotions and Stories for Motorcycle Riders (now available through AuthorHouse), to bring pause for thought to readers on the move.

Racing Fuel for the Spirit is a collection of stories taken from Jenkins’ diverse life path. Besides a racing chaplain, he has served his community as a prison chaplain and pastor. He has been a riverboat deckhand, deep sea diver and high school teacher. He recalls aspects of each phase to help readers better understand their relationships with God. While engaging them in entertaining stories, Jenkins puts biblical truths into perspective in his efforts to bring inspiration and spiritual growth into the lives of many who might not otherwise seek it.

“There is a reason believers have to go through suffering,” says Jenkins.

He discusses topics such as the power of forgiveness, the afterlife, overcoming adversity and the quest for peace, joy and purpose in life. Also included are more than 100 photographs to assist readers’ understanding of a concept many find daunting, but which, he says, should be an integral part of every life. Using his time spent on the motocross circuit as a backdrop, Jenkins provides an unusual yet thought-provoking angle from which to view the modern search for true spirituality.

“The major theme is ‘There is a God and he loves you,’” Jenkins writes. “He has provided a way for you to know him, and a way to live life to the fullest. He can handle any problem if you will trust him.”

Each devotion in Racing Fuel for the Spirit is self-contained and designed to be read one per day, “like a spiritual vitamin,” says Jenkins. It is the perfect daily guide for anyone on the go who is looking to fine-tune their relationship with God.

Jenkins was a successful amateur motocross racer as a teenager, then went on to a diversified career that included more than 20 years as a minister to schools, prisons, churches and motorcycle race tracks. He currently resides in Covington, La. Racing Fuel for the Spirit is his second book.
